Founded in Zurich in 1926, NewRe has been headquartered in Geneva since 1940. In 1988, NewRe became part of the Munich Re Group, the world’s leading reinsurer. With the goal to diversify its non-life reinsurance business, it opened an office for Financial Solutions Life business in Zurich in 2007. Based on the expansion of NewRe’s strategic scope within the Munich Re Group, NewRe relocated its complete operations to Zurich in 2010.
Our strategy is built on three pillars:
- Traditional and structured Non-Life reinsurance business for European clients
- Specialised Life reinsurance business for clients worldwide
- Development of new business fields and new products for the Munich Re Group
Whilst NewRe has been firmly established in the first two segments for many years, the new business fields are in the process of being developed from our Zurich headquarters. They comprise variable annuity life business, products for financial institutions, cat bonds, retroactive reinsurance and solvency-related products for insurance companies.
