Vice President of the Board of Directors

Sascha Brehm was appointed to the Board of Directors of NewRe in January 2026. He serves as Chief Risk Officer of the Munich Re Group, where he is responsible for overseeing all risk management activities across the worldwide organization.

He originally joined Munich Re in 2009 as Risk Analyst and subsequently became the Senior Risk Manager directly reporting to the Group CRO. Over the course of his career with the company, he has held a number of senior leadership positions. These roles have included Global Head of Technical Accounting and Claims Handling as well as Global Owner of Accounting Processes, Digitization and Automation. He played a key role in driving process standardization, technological transformation, and efficiency improvements across international operations.

Sascha Brehm’s professional expertise spans risk management and financial governance, complemented by a profound understanding of accounting and claims handling. His background combines strong analytical capabilities and practical leadership experience in complex, global organisations with solid transformational knowledge.

He holds a doctorate in Theoretical Physics from Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg.
